You’ll find Talea full of families on Sunday mornings for their family music class with Jazz Baby. Every Sunday at 10:30 6. Jazz Jam Sessions Location: Various locations Finding venues to introduce kids to jazz in NYC can be daunting. Smalls, Mezzrow, the Blue Note, the Iridium, Village Vanguard and Dizzy’s are great options for well established jazz clubs that welcome “well behaved children accompanied by adults.” Shows at these venues are usually on the later side and can be an ordeal for a family to plan. Another alternative is to check out some of NYC’s jam sessions that bring together local musicians in a more casual setting. Jam sessions are typically free to attend and are an incredible way to experience the vibrant musical culture that NYC has to offer. Some sessions to consider - Basik, Sundays at 7 in Williamsburg. Marians - Thursdays at 8:30 in Bed Stuy. Small’s afternoon jam session - Friday’s 2:00-5:30. 7. The Little Orchestra Society Location: Various Locations The Little Orchestra Society has been a staple of NYC’s music education scene for decades. Their concerts are designed to be engaging and accessible for young children, with interactive elements that keep kids entertained while they learn about music. Performances are held at various locations across the city, including the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, making it easy to find a show near you. 8. The open-air setting allows kids to move around freely, and there are plenty of food and drink options available for a full day out. It’s a great spot to enjoy live music while taking in the sights and sounds of NYC. 9. Central Park SummerStage Location: Central Park, Manhattan Central Park’s SummerStage is a quintessential New York experience. Every summer, this outdoor venue hosts a variety of free concerts that cater to all ages.
