Let's get to know each other!
Joey is a patient and engaging violin teacher who works with students of all ages throughout Tribeca, Washington Heights, and Inwood. He teaches beginner violin lessons, intermediate students, and adult learners, helping each student build strong fundamentals while developing confidence and enjoyment on the instrument.
Joseph’s lessons focus on healthy technique, beautiful tone, and steady progress while keeping the learning process motivating and fun. Families appreciate his calm, encouraging style and his ability to make complex musical ideas simple and approachable.
Joseph works especially well with young beginners, helping children develop strong habits like posture, rhythm, listening, and bow control while staying excited about learning music. His lessons balance technique with music students enjoy so that practice feels rewarding rather than overwhelming.
He also loves working with adult violin students, whether they are returning to the instrument after many years or learning violin for the very first time. Adult learners appreciate his thoughtful explanations and his ability to break technique down into manageable steps.
Through his work teaching violin lessons in Tribeca, Washington Heights, and Inwood, Joseph helps students build both strong musical skills and a lifelong connection to music.

My music journey
Joseph’s musical path began as a folk musician in New England before he went on to pursue formal violin studies in New Orleans. Over time he continued advanced training at institutions including the Jacobs School of Music and the Aspen Music Festival and School, and later studied conducting at the Manhattan School of Music.
After a serious bike accident ended his performing career as a violinist, Joseph went through the process of relearning the mechanics of the instrument. This experience gave him a unique perspective on how the body works with the violin and how small adjustments can dramatically improve comfort and sound.
Today, Joseph brings this insight into his teaching, helping students play with ease, freedom of movement, and relaxed technique so that learning violin feels natural and sustainable.
Alongside his teaching, Joseph has continued his work as a conductor, studying with leading musicians and working with orchestras in the United States and Europe. But teaching remains at the center of his musical life, and he takes pride in helping students experience the excitement of learning music and seeing their progress week by week.
Joseph teaches private violin lessons in Tribeca, Washington Heights, and Inwood through WillYouLearn, working with children, teens, and adults at every stage of their musical journey.
