In-home music lessons in Tribeca
WillYouLearn has been teaching Tribeca families since 2013. Working New York musicians come to students’ homes for private piano, guitar, violin, voice and more, from young beginners through adults.
WillYouLearn + Tribeca
Will Armstrong founded WillYouLearn in 2013. He is a jazz pianist, longtime educator and New York dad, and Tribeca has been part of the school almost from the beginning.
Will still teaches in the neighborhood himself. A typical afternoon might begin with a mother and then her son near Chambers Street, continue to another student across from the Ghostbusters firehouse, head toward the Holland Tunnel for a teenager, and finish farther west with a seven-year-old.
He is also frequently hired to perform at Bogardus Plaza through Friends of Bogardus Plaza. Teaching and playing in the same neighborhood is part of what WillYouLearn is meant to feel like: not a directory of teachers, but a real music school woven into the city around it.
That closeness matters. Teachers spend more time teaching and less time crossing Manhattan. Families see familiar faces, routes become sustainable, and relationships can last for years.
Finding a great teacher should be the beginning of a relationship, not a search you have to start over every year.

How lessons work
Most WYL students have a standing weekly lesson with the same teacher. It gives the relationship time to grow without pretending school, work, travel and family schedules will stay perfectly still all year.
The same teacher, the same place, and room for a real relationship to develop over time.
Two designated makeup dates are part of each semester because school, travel, sickness and New York schedules happen.
New semester students begin with a three-week trial. The teacher and the relationship should feel right.
Pay-as-you-go lessons are available with select teachers for especially unpredictable schedules.
Standing weekly lessons are organized in 16-lesson semesters. Flexible payment options are available.
In-home music lessons
New York families already have enough places to be. The lesson happens on the instrument the student actually uses, in the room where they will practice after the teacher leaves. A regular lesson becomes part of ordinary life at home.
We start with the student, not a dropdown menu. Will personally oversees new matches around age, personality, musical interests, experience, goals and schedule.
Music is something you learn to speak. Listening and playing come first. Reading, theory and technique grow out of music the student can actually hear and care about.
Private lessons in Tribeca
Tell us what the student is interested in, and we’ll find the right musician on our faculty. A lesson can begin with a first song or a very specific musical question.
Young beginners through advanced players. Classical, jazz, pop, improvisation, reading, technique, ear training and songwriting.

A private teacher, with a school behind them
Some of the clearest examples of what WYL can become are families who have been with us for years. The relationship starts with one student, then grows as their interests and lives change.
One Tribeca family started with their young daughter. Her younger brother became interested and began taking ukulele. Then their mom started weekly guitar and songwriting lessons with Gracie Nash. She is now working toward her first album.
The family has introduced WYL to many friends, and our musicians even played a fundraiser for their preschool.
Meet Gracie →Most of our Tribeca families found us through another Tribeca family. Friendships, school pickups and group chats have introduced one household to the next. One mother described her child’s teacher as part of the support team around her family.
Some WYL students stay with the same teacher from kindergarten into high school. And when a student needs something different, there is a larger community of musicians around the relationship.
Students also have opportunities to perform alongside professional musicians from the WYL faculty. A private lesson can stay personal without being isolated.
Questions
Tuition depends on the teacher and lesson length. Most families choose a standing weekly lesson, organized in a 16-lesson semester with make-up time built in. Pay-as-you-go lessons are also available with select teachers for schedules that need more flexibility. We’ll give you the exact tuition before you decide.
New semester students have a three-week trial beginning with their first scheduled lesson. If you withdraw during that period, unused semester tuition is refunded on a prorated basis. After the trial, semester tuition is non-refundable. Read the full enrollment policy →

Tell Will what is not working. We’ll talk through it and explore another faculty match when that makes sense. New semester students also have the three-week trial period to decide whether to continue.
