Alexandra Pawlus
Alexandra Pawlus is a Canadian-Polish soprano based in Brooklyn, New York. She is a Teaching Artist with the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and holds Vocal Performance and Pedagogy degrees from New England Conservatory and UNC School of the Arts.
Shortly before the pandemic, Alexandra made her NYC performance debuts at Carnegie Hall (Requiem for the Fallen, Dubois) and Lincoln Center (The Project, Marion/Van Vranken). Since 2021, she has ventured into opera on film, performing a soprano Orfeo in Brooklyn Telemann Chamber Society’s adaptation of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Eurydice (France 1774). A lover of art song as well as opera, Alexandra is an enthusiastic recitalist and specializes in Eastern European repertoire. Other operatic roles and scenes include: Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Diana (Orpheus in the Underworld), Lauretta/La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi), Laurie (The Tender Land).
Overseas, Alexandra earned multiple grants to perform with the American Institute of Music Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria, Iwonicz-Zdrój Opera Academy in Poland, and sang First Lady (The Magic Flute) with the Austrian-American Mozart Academy in Salzburg. She also received a scholarship to study Polish art song with Ewa Izykowska (Director of Podlasie Opera) at the Frederic Chopin Music Institute in Warsaw, Poland.
Along with her Masters in Vocal Performance from NEC, Ms. Pawlus also earned her Concentration in Vocal Pedagogy, where she studied the vocal techniques of: Marchesi, Vaccai, Complete Vocal Technique (CVT), and extensive study on the techniques of Master Teacher, Helen Hodam. Alexandra has worked with leading Pedagogues in the field, such as Dr. Ian Howell, Dr. Kenneth Bozeman, and Dr. Chadley Ballentyne.
She hopes to continue specializing in and popularizing Polish opera and art song, and to continue her work in opera, new music, jazz, and musical theatre.
