Philosophies, Policies and Procedures
Willyoulearn is NYC's at home music school. We offer lessons in piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, vocals, drums, woodwinds, bass.

We apply the principles of language learning to music education.  We teach our students not merely what to play, but how to “speak” the language. Our students learn to listen, imitate, read and absorb until music becomes their own and playing an instrument becomes as natural a form of expression as speech.

Tuition, Enrollment & Billing
WillYouLearn offers a 10 week summer session from mid-June through August.  Each summer, students are allotted 10 lessons followed by an end-of-semester make-up session. Tuition for one full summer semester is $940 per student, to be paid in full before the first lesson. New student registration continues until the program is booked to capacity. If you miss the start of the semester, we encourage you to contact us to see what availability remains. Our faculty’s schedule is filled on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. Established students will have an exclusive enrollment period in the spring before new students are accepted.

Lesson Packages and Individual Lessons
In addition to our 10 week semester we offer a-al carte lesson packages. Contact our office to have a customized summer schedule set up. Summer lessons must be completed before the start of Fall semester.

Withdrawals and Refund Policy
Any student can withdraw from the 10 week program during the first three weeks of the semester. Should you choose to withdraw within this three-week period, you will receive a penalty-free refund minus a prorated charge for your lessons to date. After three weeks, students must fulfill their 10 lesson commitment. Withdrawal from the program after three weeks but prior to the end of the semester requires full payment.

Lesson Cancellation Policy
Within each semester, students are granted up to two absences which are eligible for a make-up lesson. If for any reason, including illness, a student cancels more than twice, additional make-up credit will not be offered. Lessons cancelled without at least 24 hours notice are not eligible for any make-up credit. If your teacher should miss a lesson for any reason, such as illness, a make-up credit will be extended.

Lesson Cancellation Procedures
All lesson cancelations must be done via our student portal page.  Simply login to your account and click on the lesson you wish to cancel.  Lessons not cancelled in accordance with these procedures may not be eligible for a make-up credit.

Make-up Lessons
Each semester ends with designated make-up days. Make-up lessons will take place on your regular day and time during the make-up period unless otherwise agreed upon. If you are due any make-ups, you will be contacted a few weeks prior to the make-up session to arrange your make-up lesson schedule. If a student cancels a make-up lesson, another will not be offered. In addition to the make-up session that concludes each semester, we will occasionally schedule make-ups during the semester. Mid-session make-up lessons are entirely dependent upon mutual availability.

Substitute Teachers
Because our faculty are all busy performing musicians, a teacher may need to occasionally substitute a lesson with another member from faculty. Families will always be informed via email of a substitute.

Odds and Ends
WillYouLearn’s faculty has a reputation for reliability and punctuality. However, because we rely mostly on public transportation, lesson start time can sometimes vary by several minutes. Your teacher will contact you if any delays should occur. Regardless of these slight variations, all lessons will total 60 minutes from the time the instructor enters your home.

“No shows.’ If the teacher arrives for a lesson and the student is not home, the teacher will wait for 10 minutes past the start of the scheduled lesson time. After 10 minutes, the teacher will leave and no make-up credit will be granted.

If a teacher arrives for a lesson and a student is contagiously ill, the teacher may choose not to stay for the lesson. In such a case, no credit will be issued for the missed lesson.

Please note: an adult is required to be in the home during the duration of each lesson for all students under the age of 18.
