Your time is held
A consistent weekly lesson with the same teacher, rather than a new appointment to arrange every week.
In New York since 2013
New York City’s in-home music school. Working NYC musicians who understand their students. A school that understands NYC families.
Get started →Our approach
They’re working New York musicians who teach the way they learned: by listening, imitating, reading, studying, and playing until it feels natural. We want students who can read music, understand theory, and still know what to do when the page disappears.
Piano · Guitar · Voice · Drums · Strings · Woodwinds · and more
Get started →How lessons work
At the center of WillYouLearn is a standing weekly lesson: a regular time with a teacher who gets to know the student, their music, and where they’re going.
Lessons are organized in semesters so that relationship has time to grow, with make-up time and a three-week trial built in because real schedules are messy.
A consistent weekly lesson with the same teacher, rather than a new appointment to arrange every week.
Make-up time is built into the semester because school, travel, sickness and New York schedules happen.
The first three weeks are a trial period. The teacher and the relationship should feel right.
Pay-as-you-go lessons are available with select teachers for unusually challenging schedules.
Standing weekly lessons are organized in 16-lesson semesters. Flexible payment options are available.
Why WillYouLearn
Sports seasons start. School schedules change. Families move neighborhoods. Teachers move too.
We know our teachers, their schedules and their students, and we work hard to keep good matches together. A standing lesson reserves that teacher’s time for your family.
How we teach
We begin the way you learned to speak: by listening and imitating until sounds develop meaning and eventually become your own.
A song, a melody, a bass line. Start with something the student actually wants to hear, understand, and play.
Reading, theory and technique help students name, organize, and go further with what they’re already hearing and playing.
“More than any other learning tool, the ear offers a straight line to your musical DNA and allows you to access and communicate your most honest, most original music.”
Meet Will
Will Armstrong is a jazz pianist, longtime educator, and New York dad. He founded WillYouLearn in 2013 after years of teaching and performing in New York, with a simple idea: finding a great teacher should be the beginning of a relationship, not a search families have to start over every year.
Will still knows the faculty, makes matches, talks with families, and stays involved after lessons begin. There’s a real person behind the school.

Will you learn? Yes you will. Will is extremely organized and helped me take my piano playing to the next level. Great for beginners and experienced players.
Philip Cappello
Every year, students take the stage with the WYL faculty band. Teachers show up for their own students, and for each other’s.
Fall lessons
Tell us who the student is, where you are, and what you want to play. We’ll take it from there.
